All About Patchouli Oil

You may associate Patchouli oil with the hippy movement of the 1960’s, but there are amazing benefits that come from using this ancient essential oil! Patchouli is a species of plant which is part of the mint family and it’s native to tropical climates. You can describe the scent as smoky, earthy with a hint of spice. The scent is a fixture in the perfume market because it’s an excellent base note. Patchouli has been used for years by ancient Asian cultures and here are just a few of Patchouli’s essential oil benefits:

1.      Antidepressant: It has been known that the smell of Patchouli has a calm, balancing effect on mood and that is why it is frequently used in aromatherapy practices.

2.      Insect Repellent: In ancient China, they used the insecticidal properties of Patchouli to prevent moths when shipping silks across the ocean. Today, it can be used as a natural insect repellent.

3.    Anti-inflammatory: Patchouli has antiphlogistic properties so the essential oil from the Patchouli plant can be used as relief for a number of inflammation conditions such as gout and arthritis.

4.      Aphrodisiac: Both men and women can benefit from the libido lift that the Patchouli oil provides.

With so many benefits to Patchouli oil, it’s no wonder Doctor Aromas has several scents which utilize its wonderful scent! For example, our Hope scent combines the soft mist of Patchouli with sweet rose, jasmine petals, ginger, the earthiness of gurjan balsam and sandalwood to fill the air with Spring!
