Three Best Scents for a Good Night’s Sleep

If you don’t get those several hours of sleep each night, you probably dream of the moment when you can lay your head on a pillow and fall into a deep restful sleep. Some typical remedies include counting sheep, drinking tea, sleeping pills, but what if the key to catching some z’s is in your nose?
Studies have shown that there are a few scents that can help you get to sleep. Here are a few:
Jasmine: The scent of jasmine flowers provides a calming sedative effect, and has been used to treat depression, stress and anxiety. Researchers found that a slight hint of jasmine in the air where study participants were sleeping led to a deeper sleep, and subjects reported increased levels of alertness throughout the next day.
Vanilla: is recognized for its anti-depressant and tranquilizing qualities, lowering blood pressure and promoting feelings of well being and calm. In fact, in a study by Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City in the early 90s, patients reported 63 per cent less overall anxiety when undergoing MRI scans when the scent of vanilla was present in the room.
Lavender: smelling lavender essential oil before bed, can provide an increased amount of time spent in slow-wave sleep, the restful and restorative sleep phase. And while the lavender helps both men and women get a better sleep, studies show it is more effective in females.
